About

The 4th SOUTHBANK ARTS AND PERFORMANCE TRAIL will be taking place on Saturday 20 and Sunday 21 May 2006, 11-6 daily.

Here's some useful information:

1. Leaflet
The
format of this year’s Arts Trail guide is different to that adopted in previous years. This year, instead of a brochure, we are producing a leaflet. It will have a print run of 10,000, be available free and widely distributed.

This leaflet, due to its reduced size, will list venues only. One image will represent each venue. Artist/performer names will be listed after each venue entry, but no individual contact information or descriptions will be listed here.

However, an image, brief description and contact details for each artist/performer SBA member will be posted on the website www.southbank-bristol.co.uk linked to venue details on the Arts Trail map.

This year, image (300 dpi image 5cm x 5cm,) and text for each artist will be uploaded onto our website by said artist/performer. Precise details of how to do this will be available very soon.

The deadline for submitting details for the leaflet/website will be13 March 2006. Please make your submission as soon as possible as late submissions WILL NOT be accepted. (The design and web teams are made up of volunteers and therefore need to be given time to produce web pages and the leaflet).

2. Publicity

Whilst as an organisation the SBA is responsible for general promotion of the Arts Trail through leaflets, posters, website, TICs and press releases, don’t forget that you have an important publicity role to play too.

Utilise mailing lists if you have them, invite friends, family, colleagues etc. Invite representatives of businesses and art galleries if you think your work might be of interest to them. You can also send out our own press release. You might have an unusual/interesting story that will make your work newsworthy and so interest the press. If you’ve never sent a press release before remember to make it concise, include an image and the all-important contact/venue details which will be:

your name

your venue address

“Southbank Bristol Arts Trail 2006 takes place in Southville and Bedminster, South Bristol, on Saturday 20 and Sunday 21 May 2006, 11-6 daily. Visit website www.southbank-bristol.co.uk for further details.”

3 Poster/leaflet distribution

Each Arts Trail participant – whether they be venue, artist, performer, musician or supporter will be issued with one poster and ten leaflets (unless more are requested).

These will be made available one month prior to the Trail at a time and place to be announced.

4. Venue Host meeting – Wednesday 17 May 2006, 7.30pm at Southville Centre,

This is a meeting where venue hosts can collect flags/security information etc. Please can you email me to say ‘Yes’ I have a flag or ‘No’ I do not have a flag. This will let us know how many new flags need to be created.

5. Shoebox Project

If you are taking part in this project, please don’t forget to arrange to have your shoebox(es) delivered to The Crypt, St Paul’s Church on Friday 19 May 2006 between 6-9pm. Thank you.

6. Previews

As a venue you may decide to have a preview in the week preceding the Arts Trail or keep your exhibition up after the weekend for a postview. If you would like to invite SBA members who might otherwise miss viewing your venue due to their own venue commitments during the Arts Trail weekend, please let me know and I’ll add them to a list to be circulated two weeks prior to the Trail.

7. Opening Event

The Southville Centre would like to invite you to an opening event there on Friday 19 May 2006 from 9-11pm. This is an opportunity for everyone to wind down (or up!) before the weekend gets going. The bar will be open during this event. You will be sent a formal invitation nearer the Trail.

8. End of Trail Party

This will take place in the Tobacco Factory theatre on Sunday 21 May 2006 from 7.30 -11pm. There is a bar and there will be entertainment in the form of bands/DJ. Images from the Trail will be shown throughout the evening. A formal invitation will be sent out nearer the Trail.

9. Feedback

You will be contacted in the week following the Trail asking for your views on how the Trail went for you. We will welcome all your comments, positive and negative. Your views will help us with the planning of next year’s event. With the feedback questionnaire we will be giving you an opportunity to volunteer your services to help with the planning process for 2007.
